Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled in picturesque locales
beside san artificial lake known as the Dhevar Lake and was
established in 1957. It extends over an area of 160 sq km.
It is 51 km south east of Udaipur. The Jaisamand Wildlife
Sanctuary in Rajasthan is 14 km in length & 9 km in width.The
Dhevar Lake has the circumference of 88 km.
The congenial natural environs of the Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary
is home to innumerable wild species like
- sloth bear,
- leopard,
- chital,
- chinkara,
- wild boar
- Hyena
- Chital
- Langur
- Variety of breeding birds like darter, open bill stork,
pond heron, little cormorant and Indian shag.
- Also here at the Dhevar lake you can view the crocodiles
and a number of fish.
Near the Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary you will find the game
sanctuary, which is spread over an area of about 45 km &
is easily accessible by road. The sanctuary is home to wild
animals like Panthers, Wild Bear, Spotted Deer, Sambhars,four
horned antelope.
The Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary is most often vivited not
only for the wide variety of wildlife but also because of
the Dhevar Lake, which is believed to be built by Rana Jai
Singh , it was one of the largest lakes in Asia in the year
1691. this lake provided a stunning backdrop to the summer
retreat - "Rubi Rani Ki Mahal".
Here at Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary you also have an option
of visiting
an island in the lake where Bhills , one of the most colorful
tribes of Rajasthan dwell.
The Jaisamand wildlife Sanctuary is easily reached from Udaipur
by road.
