Commissioned by Maharaja Jai Singh II, the City Palace Jaipur is a fusion of traditional Rajasthan and Mughal architecture. The City Palace complex incorporates palatial structures, straggling gardens and other buildings. The outer wall of the City Palace Jaipur can be credited to Jai Singh II, but the incorporation of other structures within the complex was done at the initiative of his successors.

The Mubarak Mahal built by Maharaja Madho Singh sports a majestic gateway with a grand door that opens into an elegant courtyard. The ‘Diwan-E-Khas’ has a marble paved gallery while the ‘Diwan-E-Am’ is graced by intricate decorations and Persian and Sanskrit manuscripts. You can also get to see the two largest silver vessels in the world, recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records stationed in this hall. Water was brought in these vessels from holy Ganges for the personal use of Madho Singh II.

Another structure within City Palace Jaipur that warrants a special visit is the Chandra Mahal or the Moon Palace that served as the residence of the ex-ruler. The Chandra Mahal commands spectacular views of the landscaped gardens as well as the city. The complex houses an excellent museum, an armory and several exquisitely appointed halls. The Badal Mahal stands face to face to Chandra Mahal. The famed Govind Devji Temple stands in between the two palaces. The pathway is adorned with a delightful system of fountains.
