Rajasthan Fairs and Festivals

                    

The people of Rajasthan live life to the hilt and nobody can really match the gay abandon with which the Rajasthani surrenders himself to the numerous fairs and festivals that are celebrated here . There are animal fairs, there are religious fairs and there are fairs to mark the changing seasons. In fact, celebrations occur almost round the year and provide the visitor with the splendid opportunity to gain an insight into the life of Rajasthani . There is dancing, singing , drama , devotional music and other community activities that can enthrall the visitor.

                      

Some of the Rajasthan Fairs and Festivals are like

Nagaur Fair,Nagaur (Jan-Feb.):This is a fair held in Nagaur in the month of January, February. It is basically an animal fair, where you can also participate in some of the local sports.

Gangaur,Jaipur (March-April): This festival is dedicated to Lord Shiva’s consort, Goddess Parvati. This is the time when young girls dress up in their finery and pray for grooms of their choice and also the married women pray for the well-being of their husbands. This festival continues for 18-days and is full of celebrations and the main attraction here is a grand procession marking the arrival of Shiva to take his bride home.

Camel Festival:Bikaner (January): You will find the city full of festivities and there are dance and music performances. An enchanting desert city which comes alive with music and dance and also some unusual folk performances like camel race, camel dance etc

Pushkar Fair,Ajmer (November): One of the most important one in the fairs and festivals of Rajasthan ,Pushkar is an important pilgrimage as well as the venue of a huge cattle fair. There are markets, auctions, music and sports which are of the major attractions of this fair.

Marwar Festival,Jodhpur (October): This festival is mostly of music and dance . Get the feel of culture and traditions of Rajasthan at this time.

Elephant Festival,Jaipur (March-April): This is a part of celebration of the Holi festival. You can watch several elephant sports and also be a part of the festival of colors. A show where the elephants are magnificently decorated takes place.

Desert Festival,Jaisalmer (Jan-Feb.): This has earned much popularity as it gives you an insight of the golden city of Jaisalmer that has a unique charm . This is spectacular show on the sands which attracts a large number of visitors.
